Overview
In this short video, Sierra and Ken discuss two of the most common C60 purification methods, and why they’re not created equal.
Episode Summary
Let’s take a walk down memory lane. Maybe you loved chemistry, maybe you hated it, but chances are you learned about solvents. If you need a bit of a refresher, don’t worry – this episode is for you!
Chemically speaking, solvents are used to dissolve any range of materials. Why does this matter in the making of C60? Solvents are sometimes used not in the making of C60 but in its purification process. The ironic thing is that no matter how hard you try, solvents can never fully be removed from C60 once they’ve been used, therefore the term “purity” may be a misnomer. Listen in and learn why sublimation methods are superior to solvents, and why this method leaves you with the best C60 for health and wellness goals.
Quote: Not all C60 purification methods are created equal! Most companies use the “vacuum oven-baked” method which involves the use of toxic solvents, like toluene. The purification method known as the sublimation method is preferred because it uses no solvents and produces a much cleaner product. -Ken Swartz
